PAINT ANNAPOLIS 2025 Begins

I can’t believe it’s here but it is! First event = done! I participated in the “Dueling Brushes” QuickDraw event, which is, basically—what can you do in 2 hours?

Here is where I was at the 2h mark. Tweaked some more since then. More pics forthcoming.

Photo #2 —> Digital painting IN PROGRESS

Progress on my current commission: I’m working on the sky right now. Highlights will go on the water soon and then I’ll do the boats.

Photo #1—> Digital Painting complete

This was a commission. I had done a similar conversion last year, which was then printed on aluminum and hangs in their home, of the wife of the couple in a kayak. This one is of the husband in a dragon boat.

This is the completed painting. The original photo and painting of the kayak are below.

MY FIRST BLUE RIBBON!

What a surprise to receive the juror’s first place award at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab’s 2025 Annual Art Show! Such a great event. I can’t believe my husband’s worked there all this time and this is the first time I participated or attended. Boy have I been missing out! All proceeds went to the Johns Hopkins Medical Center.

Wildfire 🚲🏇

I’m very excited about my latest artwork that I completed last week. Why? Because I managed to get the proportions right without using a photo reference! I did have to look up the ratio of the size of cannon to forearm when I saw that I had the cannons too long. Then I saw also that the hooves were not big enough. Because this is pretty much a watercolor painting (a tiny bit of colored pencil on the kid’s pants), I was able to make adjustments and was excited to do so without damaging the paper as sometimes happens when things are overworked.

When posting to Instagram, I was looking for music to put with the post and came across the song Wildfire by Michael Martin Murphy thar I knew from the 70s.

Hospice Cup Pster Competition 2025

Here is my entry. Of course there are things I see now that should be different but I ran out of time. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Which composition do you like better? I submitted the cropped one but now that I look I’m not sure I like it more now.
