Painting At The Beach

It’s beach week, as those of you with my 2023 calendar may have noticed (that’s why this week is covered with little beach paintings). Greetings from Fenwick Island Delaware!

I am playing with watercolors on gessoed wood panels this week. It is so much fun to turn the panel and watch the colors swirl and rush from side to side. More to come.

Prints are in. Framing commences…

Cutting mats with my mom’s 1959/1962/? Dexter mat cutter and trying not to get an ulcer doing it. I hate measuring! This is all pretty expensive—I hope some of these sell! (Hint hint! Subtle, I know. Nothing but class here.)

Impact Commission COMPLETE

I am so happy to have finished (and safely delivered) this commission. It was thrilling to confirm that it plays with the credenza below it exactly as intended. It has its own wall making for an ideal presentation while uniting and bridging an open plan kitchen/eating area/family room.

It’s strange how letting go of such a piece is rather like re-homing a pet… I am confident it will be happy in its new home.

This commission was a privilege and superior learning opportunity for which I am immensely grateful.

MFA Studio Tours - What I'm sending to 49 West Restaurant Exhibit

I'm submitting 3 here. I was tempted to choose apple works, or Herman again but I wanted to put out something different, so I kept with the theme of places and chose these:

Flyby (Fenwick Island, DE)
8x10" acrylic on canvas panel

We Were Here (Mount Tabor Good Samaritan Lodge No. 59, Crownsville, MD)
10x8" acrylic on canvas panel

Halsey from Eastport
7x5" acrylic on canvas

MFA Studio Tours 2022

I am participating in the Maryland Federation of Art's first Studio Tours event Saturday, April 30-Sunday May 1, 2022. Since my "studio" is in my home in Crofton, I will temporarily share a space with the gracious and talented Elizabeth Kendall (at SoCo Arts Lab, 312 Deale Rd, Tracys Landing, MD 20779). Although I won't be having this painting hanging in MFA's Circle Gallery as part of the event, it is what I submitted when applying to participate.  This was the first painting I did using my new easel that I got for Christmas and reclaimed a truly terrible canvas.

Poms on the brain

2023 UPDATE:
I worked on these in the beginning of 2023, repainting a lot and adding even red nail polish in an attempted to get the deep jeweled saturated color I wanted. I titled them PomPom Studies 1 & 2. #2 was shown at MFA's Circle Gallery (Annapolis) as part of my wall in the 2023 Mélange exhibition, and #1 was accepted into MFA's 2023 Member show (also at Circle Gallery).

Here Comes The Sun

Hi all. Have you done your good deed for the day? Yes? No? Regardless, please consider voting for my 2 paintings in Maryland Federation of Art’s “Here Comes The Sun” virtual exhibition. I didn’t realize it was this kind of thing and so am late to the mark rallying the troops. Of course what is really measured is largely people’s connectedness but I sure would like to give the established favorites a run for their money! Thanks!

MFA Corporate Connections Entry: Mind The Glass Mixed Media

I am very excited to have finished a mixed media artwork featuring a print of my Mind The Glass digital painting. The print used is a one of one limited edition print made via darkroom processing on Kodak Professional Endura Metallic Paper and framed behind non-reflective UV museum glass, which protects the print from photodegradation while appearing invisible (Thank you C A Fowkes Framing for providing me with the glass I needed with 20 minutes notice!). Found object glass and mirror shards (retrieved from an auto- and other glass sourcing and replacement business local to me, thank you Economy Glass) are affixed to the museum glass, and seemingly to the print itself, over top of the painted images of glass shards into the print, making them into real objects. The shattered glass spills out of the print and onto the frame (and also includes purchased craft crushed glass nuggets). I extended the  background of the digital painting print by painting it out onto the frame using acrylic paint, and am very pleased with how well I was able to match the colors.

I have submitted this artwork along with a giclee print of Herman Goes Sailing for consideration to the Maryland Federation Of Art's upcoming Corporate Connections exhibition.
