Attention Email Subscribers!

The foretold end of Feedburner email is apparently to come to pass in mid-August instead of July. Right now I do not have plans to migrate to a dedicated email service like Mailchimp or ConstantContact. I will continue to post to the blog probably on a (I hope) at least weekly basis. You can also follow along via Facebook (@Fanfare.themed.art) or Instagram (@fanfare_themed_art). Thank you for coming along for my ride through the orchard. I hope you stay to play.

Sincerely,

julie

UPDATE: Mobile version

So I was wondering why I can’t find this on Google and did some poking around. I thought I’d had it indexed but I guess not? I swear I started the process and then maybe there were some things to fix and I did but didn’t restart the process. Well, now I have so we’ll see.

In any case one strike against me was the lack of a mobile version of the blog—FIXED! The problem is that it doesn’t show everything available in the web version like the keyword cloud and archive. SO, if you want those, you’re going to have to click in “web version” at the bottom of the page.

As for the feedburner issue, I’m confused. I continued to get emails so I’m not sure what’s going on with that.

Welcome to July—End of Feedburner

If you happen to be checking here because you’ve not received your daily email, there are two reasons for that.

  • Firstly, since the end of the year of daily apple posts, I have been taking a bit of a break. Posting daily was so good for me though that I am going to try to continue to post regularly, if not rigidly every single day.
  • Secondly, FeedBurner, the widget that brought viewers daily emails, has changed and dropped that functionality. If you’d still like to keep abreast of my work without checking here, I suggest following me on Instagram or Facebook, as it’s very likely whatever I post here will show up there as well.
In the past week or so I’ve been working on some different things and also getting some things framed and hanging (freeing up space!) I’ll post those as separate posts for admin reasons.

Thanks for following me thru this point and/or for just checking in and checking out my site.

PROJECT COMPLETE!

One year of daily apple artwork posts? DONE. Woo-boo!

So that works out to be 301 completed artworks and 57 in-progress posts, including  a week of Paint Annapolis plein air work. Go me! My grandfather used to say, “He who tooteth not his own horn—said horn shall not be tooted.” So toot toot!

From this point I need to decide what to do. Blogger is dropping its feedburner functionality so daily emails will stop soon. But I think I will continue posting. Maybe not daily, and I plan to take a break from apples (!), tho I may see if I can complete a round 365 eventually. I will continue to also post on Instagram and Facebook.

Thank you for taking this ride with me. What started out as a whim resulted in SO much growth and learning and experience!

And here is where I plug my shop—help me celebrate by getting me back in the black! I’m in the red from supplies and entry fees again. Every little bit helps! Make a celebratory purchase or donation! Every little bit helps and all are so appreciated.

The deal with the waves....

So it’s becoming apparent I have this thing right now about doing waves with an apple floating in the foreground. I’ll stop doing it when that nudge to do it feels satisfied, which is... not yet. Hope you don’t get bored, but I gotta get it out of my system!

01/31/2021 Provenance Book

Last night and today I’ve been creating an analog catalog (alliteration!) of my work to date in response to a suggestion that I keep a journal of uncensored notes on each piece as I do them. So of course, like a perfectionist, I felt I had to start from the beginning and get all of them. I’m sure I missed some, but I used the pictures on my phone to try to catch them all, cutting and pasting them into a Moleskine book. I love cutting and pasting! My kindergarten skills are fierce.

Looks Like I owe you one...

Happy Inauguration Day, US viewers!

So, I was just telling my psychiatrist about the blog and what I've been doing art-wise since June and how I was pleased I was posting an artwork everyday. Then I checked here and realized that I posted Stripey twice. What's up with that? I'll tell you. Two words: Civilization VI. We got this game for the Switch for Xmas and it is like my own personal crack-cocaine. I pick up the controller and 2 hours are gone. I've played for up to 8 or so hours at a stretch. I've played until 2 or 3 am multiple times (like last night), so I'm operating tired which leads to mistakes. SO... I need to get an extra in there. And I need to stop letting CivVI eat into art and sleep time! <Ughhhh>

By the way, if you want a calendar, I have one 10x10 left in stock ready to ship. See my Ko-fi shop or contact me directly. And hey, <shameless plug> I'm $150 or so in the hole art-wise due to my reprinting Mind The Glass and sending those out to those who purchased prints (because I was dissatisfied with the original prints I got), and art show entry fees.  So anyone who'd like to drop something in my "tip jar" or become a monthly supporter or purchase something, please see my Ko-fi page! Need a New Year's Resolution? Supporting local artists is a worthy cause!

01:01/21 Relearning perspective

What a BEAR getting this house down has been! This is like 4–6 hours of work just for this framework. Why?? Because I had to relearn 2-point perspective, which I haven’t worked with since high school (some 30 years ago—gah!). There’ll eventually be an apple somewhere.

12/26/2020 Ghost Of Christmas Present 2020

“And it was a very uncommon kind of torch, for once or twice, when there were angry words between some dinner-carriers who had jostled each other, he shed a few drops of water on them from it, and their good-humour was restored directly.”      —A Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens

12/25/2020 Sally’s Apple

“Dear Santa, I have been extra good this year. So I have a long list of presents that I want. Please note the size and color of each item. If it seems too complicated, make it easy on yourself: just send money. How about tens and twenties? All I want is what I... I have coming to me. All I want is my fair share.” —A Charlie Brown Christmas 1965

Things are heating up re: getting out holiday gifts while dealing with kids’ school etc. so I’m continuing to do things that are easy for now. Worked some more on getting this colored in....

12/07/2020 Still working on it...

One of those days where I swear I erased and redrew more than ever remained to be seen. Then I messed that up and had to delete layers and start over again. Arghhhh!

11/24/2020 Calendars coming for 2021

I spent today putting together calendars, choosing photos, cropping, etc. and not drawing. So I’ll have to catch up with an extra original artwork but this is what I have for today:

11/14/2020 Gingko + apple

Original artwork is a 3x4” acrylic painting I did today of some gingko leaves. I love gingkos and their clear yellow color in fall. They’re the sole surviving species of an ancient group of tries that were around before and during the time of the dinosaurs. So when you see a gingko, you are sharing the experience had at some time by a dinosaur. How cool is that?

11/09/2020 Mind The Glass...apple

What’s with the watermark? I’ll tell you:

I’d created the image in the this apple on the night US 2020 presidential election was called by the media and Kamala Harris became Vice President-Elect. I posted it on Facebook to FanFARE Themed Art page and shared that to my personal page and to a Group I follow of fans of Glennon Doyle’s latest book (Untamed). The post received hundreds of likes and had some 40+ comments, several advising to watermark and offer prints...which I spent today doing using the clunky but free platform of my Ko-fi site’s Shop. I pretty much spent today being a little freaked out and wrestling with this stuff. Eeek!

Thank you, Subscribers...All 4 of you!

Hi there, subscribers,

You are part of an elite group if you signed up to receive blog entries by email ( upper right corner)!

I’ve discovered that I am able to check to see how many folks have subscribed to receive An Apple A Day as a daily email. There are FIVE. I am 1 of them. So there are 4 other folks out there in cyberspace who receive a daily email with the days post.

THANK YOU for your interest and support. It is extremely helpful to me to have folks to whom I’m accountable.

I can’t tell who you are, I don’t have access to the email list. So no privacy worries there. I am supposing all my other visits are one-timers taking a look from Instagram or FaceBook. I thought you might be interested to know, if the stats are to be believed, the following are our stats as of today. The “Followers” count refers to folks on the Blogger app who follow this blog. Following blogs on a blog app is so 2000–2010ish.... But 263 views in October 2020 is pretty cool!

I’ve decided to replace one of my entries to the Maryland Federation of Art’s juried exhibition Light And Shadow 2020.

09/23/2020 Another 2hr iPhone Apple

 I hate autocorrect.

I know I could turn it off but it is helpful a lot of the time. (Also, I’m typing this at night so please forget any uncaught typos!)  Apparently, autocorrect does NOT want to believe fingerPAINTING is not fingerPRINTING...SMH. What I am doing here with these HEAVYPAINT apples is definitely fingerPAINTING, just to be clear—my left pointer finger to be exact.

It is amazing what we can do on these phones, isn’t it? I remember being in 3rd grade reading a story about kids who went to school at home using computers JUST EXACTLY as my kids are doing now.  Did we really think, boys and girls, that everyone would have a computer in their house one day? And that the computers could talk to each other? And that we could have tv phone calls? “Nooooooo,” we all said in 1979 to our substitute teacher, Mrs. Johnson, my best friend’s mom.  Wrongo, boys and girls. The future is now for those of use who grew up with rotary phones hanging on the wall. Time to plug in in my tricorder for the night. You know, the one with instant access to all human knowledge....

09-19-2020 Canvas

New painting started.... I don’t think I’ve painted a canvas since... like 1990? This will be acrylic on a canvas board.
