First Double-Accpetance!

Two of my three submissions for the Maryland Federation of Art's 2024 Digital Directions exhibition, were accepted—making this the first show in which I will have more than one artwork. EXCITING!

ALSO, I was pleased to see that Epidemiologue made the exhibit's poster art.

MFA Midsummer Madness

Happy July! My photograph, YIELD—Racing a Baltimore Sunset Down I95, is currently in the Maryland Federation of Art’s Circle Gallery (Annapolis, MD) for their unjuried Midsummer Madness exhibition. See the link to peruse the artworks and information on the upcoming reception. I’d love to see you there!

MFA Studio Tours at SoCo Arts Lab

I had a great time pretending to have a real studio at the Arts Lab of South County (Deale, MD), who hosted me for the MFA’s 2nd an aural studio tours event. Using the angled walls of my “bonus-room” hideaway efficiently was a challenge (in a good way) and everyone there was super-nice. Many thanks to SoCo Arts Lab for their warm hospitality!

Mélange II is up at Circle Galllery!

Wow, what a process to get these hung. I felt so bad for putting so very many holes in the walls that they had just painted but I had a devil of a time figuring out how tibpkace nt little paintings since the layout is done at home wasn’t going to work. There were several more piecesbIdbrealky hoped to include but there just wasn’t room without making it too crowded. Seriously, its was a ridiculous number of holes.. Luckily the professional artists there with MUCH more exhibition experience were willing to give advice and opinions.

You are hereby cordially invited to the in-person reception this a Saturday, 18 March 2023, from 3–5pm at Circle Gallery (Annapolis, MD). Please come and say hi. I’d love to see you!

Prints are in. Framing commences…

Cutting mats with my mom’s 1959/1962/? Dexter mat cutter and trying not to get an ulcer doing it. I hate measuring! This is all pretty expensive—I hope some of these sell! (Hint hint! Subtle, I know. Nothing but class here.)

Melange II is coming…

Melange II is an opportunity at the Maryland Federation of Art’s Circle Gallery (Annapolis, MD, USA) for a member who had entered an artwork for an exhibition and volunteered a few hours and donated an artwork for their Collector’s Choice fundraiser to win, via lottery, a wall in the gallery for a couple of weeks. I got one! So I will have a wall with my name stenciled over it on which to put anything I want for a couple of weeks, along with a bunch of other artists taking up the rest of the gallery space. So now I am working like crazy to have everything ready. Installation is on Tuesday and the reception is o next Saturday )18 March, 2023)  Exhibition details, including the sales gallery are here. Come ou out for the reception, we’d love to see you!

SOLD—Herman’s New Gig 1/1

That’s my 3rd ever sale at the gallery. The story is that a guy came in and got the welcome spiel and came back to the desk before the employee even got to sit down (so like in 3 seconds, it’s a small gallery) saying, “I want this one,” and Herman was gone. And this was before the reception. Just a well-in. (!!!)

It didn’t hurt I’m sure having I made the exhibition title wall. First time for that too. Very exciting.

Small Wonders 2022 now thru 12/23/22

Juneteenth Harvest at Middle Plantation (Davidsonville, MD) | 5x4” | Acrylic on canvas. On exhibit at Maryland Federation of Art’s Circle Gallery (Annapolis, MD) as part of Small Wonders 2022 until 12/23. See https://mdfedart.com/portfolio/270/

What an great show! So much truly wonderful work. I am thrilled , honored, and humbled to have my piece included  with such high caliber work as I saw night at the lovely little reception at the gallery.

UPDATE: ***SOLD***

Incidentally, here is the inspiration for the frame painting, although my figures are mostly women. A slave burial site was discovered near the plantation during road construction some 40-60y ago, according to a local historical marker sign. Since I’m order to get the effect of a “floater” frame that shows entire canvas I use a regular frame and turn it backwards, I have to do something with the back that is now the front, as it is generally in/poorly finished. So I’m this case I plaited it with the figures of women standing and climbing on the backs of their ancestors until they get to run and their babies are free people at the top. I put (faux, but good faux) leaf on the sides of the frame.

“Mind The Glass” goes to BWI!

My artwork, Mind The Glass, has been included in the Art Council of Anne Arundel County  in “Exhibit 34: Imagine…” which will be on display between concourses C & D (pre-security) from July 22–November 14 at BWI (Thurgood Marshall Baltimore Washington International Airport, Baltimore, MD, USA). This is my first non-gallery exhibition and speaking of imagination, I can’t imagine a setting where more people might see artwork in person over a period of time than a busy national airport. 🫢 Incredible. For a gallery of all the included work, see https://artscouncilofannearundelcountynew.submittable.com/gallery/7b48ccac-1cbe-49b9-95f2-e282feaaa11e

Cleaned-up Shop

With the end of Paint Annapolis 2022 (booooo!), the work not sold at the gallery is now available via my online shop, which precipitated some much-needed virtual housekeeping. I had emailed Hats In The Belfry to let them know that my Nocturne painting was of their Annapolis shop and received a lovely response suggesting they'd like to post it to their social media (yay!). So if you are here after seeing a Hats In The Belfry post, Welome! If you're looking for my shop, it is at https://ko-fi.com/fanfarethemedart. I hope you enjoy poking around here and there. Questions? Leave a comment or email me at burzon@verizon.net. I'd love to hear from you.
